Kid-friendly Attractions

Venture River Water Park

If you're planning a visit to Eddyville during the months of May through September, a trek to Venture River Water Park should definitely be on the agenda. The water park features more water slides than you could ever imagine, including a new attraction called Wipe Out. This attraction consists of three tunnel body slides, the multilane slide, a crazy cruise slide, as well as two flushing buckets and a whole lot more. The slides and attractions at Venture River are well-suited for adults and children. The whole family will have a splashing good time!

Land Between the Lakes

There is so much to do in the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area that you'll probably want to devote an entire day (maybe two) to exploring it. From hiking and off-road bike trails to educational opportunities in history and nature conservation, the Land Between the Lakes is the perfect adventure for children and adults of all ages.

Lyon County Museum

The Lyon County Museum is located in a section of Lyon County known as "Old Eddyville." It is housed in the Cobb House, which is a two-story Federal style brick mansion built in 1832 by the grandfather of humorist Irvin S. Cobb. The museum offers an overview of the history of industry and life in Lyon County prior to the establishment of the national recreation areas. Visitors can view a working model of an iron furnace and check out other local and regional exhibits from May through October. This seasonal attraction is closed during traditional off-season months.

Scenic Views and Historic Sites

Kentucky State Penitentiary

It might sound bizarre to define the Kentucky State Penitentiary as an historic landmark worth seeing, but once you've drive past this 100-year-old stone structure you'll understand why it made the list of "must see" sites and attractions in Old Eddyville. This massive structure's towers have earned it the nickname of "The Castle on the Cumberland." Boaters and those taking scenic drives along the water can catch a glimpse of the eerie views that this historic building provides. You can find a pictorial history of the Kentucky State Penitentiary at the Lyon County Museum. Viewing this site will likely be one of the most affordable and intriguing parts of any visit to Eddyville.

A Lakeside Village

One of the loveliest views along Lake Barkley is the historic district found in Kuttawa. A row of elegant, 19th Century homes line Lake Barkley Drive, making it the perfect setting for a "Sunday drive" with the family.

Where to Hunt and Fish

Hunting

Before making any definite plans, you'll want to familiarize yourself with the hunting seasons in Western Kentucky and be sure to have the proper license or permit to hunt the forested areas of this region. The Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area includes lands filled with wildlife such as deer, turkeys and squirrels. They offer over 250 days a year of seasonal hunting opportunities to enjoy. You can call 270-924-2065 for more information on hunting opportunities at LBL.

Fishing

Most of the resorts in Eddyville and Kuttawa offer a plethora of fishing opportunities. Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley are teeming with bass, crappie, sauger, catfish and bluegill. Many of the marinas in the area sell fishing licenses, as well as bait and tackle, making most of the places you choose to stay a one-stop shop for fishing enthusiasts.

A Waterfront Restaurant

Echo Charlie's in Eddyville is a local restaurant that offers one of the most unique dining experiences for those seeking a comfortable atmosphere right along the water. Boaters love this popular eatery because it's easy to tie up their vessels and come in to sit for a spell.

Grab a beverage and head to the deck that overlooks the water. Or sample some of the restaurant's famous crab cakes and Bubba's Key West Salt Wings. No matter what you're in the mood for, Echo Charlie's has something to satisfy your hunger. They're open for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Live Music on the Waterfront

During the summer, Eddy Creek Marina and Resort hosts their Summer Concert Series. These live waterfront concerts invite a variety of musical guests to provide live entertainment each week. Check the resort's website for a current schedule.
