Dave Stewart's Fishing Report

Kentucky Lake: Water level at Ky Dam - 354.11 Surface Temperature - 49

Lake Barkley: Water level at Barkley Dam - 353.90 Surface Temperature - 49

Both lakes have been pulled back down to winter pool now but there is still a good amount of current being generated as high water from upriver is being passed thru the lakes. Although the weather earlier in the week was warm we had a lot of wind and few fishing reports were received. Winter weather is the forecast here for this weekend with a winter storm brewing to the west. If you are planning a trip to the lakes this weekend check the weather as the latest forecast was not really sure yet just how this storm to the west was going to effect the lakes area.

The fish have transitioned for the most part or are in transition to winter patterns. No reports on the Largemouth Bass were received this week. If you are going to try for these fish I would suggest you try the main lake points near rock and fish with a jignpig or slow roll a crankbait.

Only a few reports were received this week on the Smallmouth Bass. The reports indicated that these fish were being taken on main lake primary and secondary points on suspending jerkbaits and jignpig. I also received a report that some fish were being taken in the canal by drift fishing live bait.

I talked to a few Crappie anglers earlier in the week and they said the fishing was fair along the creek channels near the mouths of the bays in 10-15 ft of water. These folks were catching fish by spider rigging small jigs and minnows along the creek channel ledges.

Since the winter has arrived and the fishing activity has slowed down I will now begin updating this report only when I have received enough reports to make it worthwhile. This will continue until the early spring bite begins and then the report will be updated again on a weekly basis. If you are planning a winter fishing trip here to the lakes area and would like an update feel free to give me a call or drop me an email.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the folks that went fishing with me this past season and also those folks that took the time to drop me an email telling how much they appreciate the weekly fishing report. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and ask that you all take time during the holidays to say a prayer for our men and women serving in the military.

There are only a few small herds of fallow deer in Land Between The Lakes, but occasionally a lucky explorer will catch a glimpse of one.
