Take a look at the tiny chicks growing up inside the nest of a Purple Martin, a type of swallow that nests in large numbers at the Nature Station. These voracious insect-eaters have learned that living near people helps them survive, and people have discovered that these birds help us too! National Trails Day

On Saturday, June 4, 2016, Land Between The Lakes National Recreation Area invites the public to help with general trail maintenance of the Canal Loop Trail. The effort in celebration of the 24th Annual National Trails Day will enhance the hiking experience for visitors. Volunteers will meet at the trail/road intersection near the south end of Kentucky Lake Scenic Drive at 8:30am and work until about 12pm. Participants should bring lunch, water, and wear appropriate clothing. Staff recommends long pants, hiking boots, gloves, and other protective clothing. The Forest Service will provide tools and equipment, tick spray, and safety glasses.

Kentucky Drag Boat Association Boat Races

The Kentucky Drag Boat Association invites visitors to come to Kentucky Lake at Land Between The Lakes(LBL) National Recreation Area for the 2016 season. Kentucky Drag Boat Association's summer racing series takes place at Pisgah Bay on the north end of Land Between The Lakes. Bring lawn chairs or blankets to Birmingham Ferry and enjoy an exciting day of racing. The heart-pounding events feature blown-alcohol boats, hydros and jet-powered boats, and flat-bottom racers skimming the water at speeds exceeding 150 mph.

Especially concerned is the Freitag family: bachelor Adolph, his widowed sister, Beulah (Boo) Levy, and their also widowed sister-in-law, Reba.

Boo is determined to have her dreamy, unpopular daughter, Lala, attend Ballyhoo, believing it will be Lala's last chance to find a socially acceptable husband. Kentucky Drag Boat Association's summer racing series takes place at Pisgah Bay on the north end of Land Between The Lakes. In this show you will learn about the relationship between the Earth, Moon, and Sun with the help of Coyote, an amusing character adapted from Native American oral traditions. Coyote has many misconceptions about our home planet and its most familiar neighbors. His confusion about the universe makes viewers think about how the Earth, Moon and Sun work together as a system. The Kentucky Lake Sailing Club cordially invites you and your crew to the Watkins Cup Regatta. The Regatta will be held on Kentucky Lake at Grand Rivers, KY, out of Lighthouse Landing Marina. For classes, registration and details visit www.klsc.net. The Regatta will consist of as many as five races. Courses will be triangular. Actual course and course length will be determined by the Race Committee based on sailing conditions on Race Day. The Watkins Cup is part of Kentucky Lake Race Week.

Schedule: Early registration will be 6:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday. Late registration will be 8:00 a.m. race day, with the Skippers Meeting to follow at 9:00 a.m. First race will start at 10:30 a.m., or as soon as possible after the Skippers Meeting. A Social hour and dinner will be held on Saturday evening. On Sunday, skippers will meet on the lake for races, which will start at 9 a.m. and conclude around noon.
