A Simple Way to Give Back to the Places We Love
September 23, 2025 | Lakin' It with Lydia
This year, for National Public Lands Day, I teamed up with Elise and Louis from the Friends of Land Between the Lakes to talk about an easy way we can all make a big difference. National Public Lands Day is a special day dedicated to the stewardship of our public lands, and it's a perfect reminder of how important it is to protect these beautiful spaces.
The Friends of LBL is a fantastic non-profit group that works tirelessly to preserve and educate the public about this recreation area. They do so much to ensure we can all enjoy LBL, and we picked up a lot of trash during our outing to do our part. With over 170,000 acres, it truly takes a community effort.
That's why this National Public Lands Day, we're asking everyone who visits the park to help out by simply picking up any trash they find. To make it easy, trash collection stations will be set up all day at both the North and South Welcome Stations. Every bottle, wrapper, or piece of litter you collect helps keep the trails safe and beautiful for everyone.
Another great way to support this mission is by becoming a member of the Friends of LBL. Your membership helps fund vital environmental education programs and conservation projects, ensuring the park thrives for years to come. In return, members get perks like discounts at gift shops and invitations to special events.
Let's all do our part to keep LBL pristine. Whether you pick up a single piece of trash on National Public Lands Day or become a member to support the cause all year long, every action counts!
