Bald Eagle Viewing Van Tours in Land Between the Lakes

January 21, 2026 | Lakin' It with Lydia

There’s something about spotting a bald eagle that makes everything else go quiet for a second. Even if you’ve lived near Land Between the Lakes for years (like I have), it still feels like a big deal every time. That’s exactly why I joined the Eagle Viewing Van Tour hosted by the Friends of Land Between the Lakes.

This tour is designed to help you find eagles without disturbing them, and that respect really matters. We started near Empire Farms, where we spotted a bald eagle sitting high in its nest, keeping watch over everything below. Even from a distance, it was an unforgettable sight, and we were able to borrow binoculars to get a better view. From there, we made a total of four stops, including time near Honker Lake, where we saw even more eagle activity and signs of a newer nest.

January is one of the best times to go eagle watching in LBL. With the leaves gone, it’s easier to scan the treetops and shorelines, and we also get visiting winter “snowbirds” from farther north when their lakes freeze over.

If you’ve been wanting to see bald eagles in the wild or learn more about them along the way, this tour is a fun experience whether you’re local or visiting for the first time.
