Music, Food and Everything You Need for a Perfect Summer Festival

July 24, 2018 | Jamie Sears Rawlings

Combine live music with street tacos, kabobs, po’ boys and other food truck fare and what you get is the perfect way to celebrate summer in the lakes region.

Head on over to Cadiz, Ky. on July 28 to experience just that and more at the Second Annual Cadiz Music & Food Festival, formerly dubbed the Harper Music Festival. In its second year, event organizers are hoping for an even bigger crowd than last year, which saw 2,000 in Cadiz for the foot-stomping and face-stuffing good time.

Music begins at 2:00 p.m. and runs continuously until 9:00 p.m. on a stage set-up especially for the festival in the Justice Center Parking Lot. Toss your lawn chair in your car and get there early to get your spot to see this amazing line-up of local and regional acts:

Justin Reynolds Band: 2:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Justin and his band have been playing stages all over the lakes area all summer long, sharing their mix of contemporary country, rock and dance hits.

43RPM: 3:15 – 4:15 p.m.

After the new hits, throw down with some nostalgia tunes from the 50’s and 60’s with 43RPM.

Instant Zeal: 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

All the way from Madisonville, Ky., Instant Zeal brings some ongoing nostalgia, this time with classic rock hits from the 70’s and 80’s.

Andy Torain: 5:45 – 6:45 p.m.

Turning the record player a bit, Andy Torain’s set includes a mix of R&B and Motown hits to get you up and moving.

Alonzo Pennington: 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.

Headlining the festival is Soul-Trax Records of Memphis Recording Artist Alonzo Pennington, an award-winning guitar player who learned the art from his father, Eddie, also a respected and renowned artist. Expect to hear Alonzo’s premier guitar-work mixed in with some heart-felt ballads throughout the night.

From classic rock to tunes that will take you back the 50’s and 60’s and even R&B and Motown hits, the day’s music offerings are sure to get any toes tapping along.

During breaks in the music action, you can check out a literal plethora of food options. Event planners have bought together nearly a dozen food truck vendors for the festival--some you’ll know and some who bring their fare from around the state and region.

If you prefer your food eaten with utensils, never fear. Many of the Cadiz Main Street eateries will stay open for the festival, leaving you the choice of whether to dine at the Cadiz Family Restaurant, Ferrell’s, Reva’s Place or The Cabin Coffee & Café and then heading over to the Antique Mall for after-dinner treats at Pig's Tail Ice Cream Parlor.

At the festival there is literally something for everyone. From noon to 5:00 p.m. there will be chance for you to let your kids loose in the Kids Zone, which features free-of-charge bounce houses and games guaranteed to get them both sweaty and jumping for joy.

There will even be craft vendors selling wares for the chance to browse for goodies while you listen to music and eat great food.
