Brooms can be made from a variety of materials. But the traditional American broom, as we know it now, has been made since the 1830's from broomcorn. The sorghum related plant is grown here at the Homeplace and today the farmers will be starting with the raw "sorghum vulgare" and using traditional methods to make the tool that has kept floors swept clean of dirt and dust for generations. At the Homeplace 1850s in Land Between The Lakes. Admission fees apply.
