Kentucky Lake
& Lake Barkley
How It All Started
At the turn of the century, Shawn Dunnaway began to see a need for a comprehensive website promoting Kentucky Lake, Lake Barkley, and Land Between The Lakes. Over the next year, he began researching and compiling data for what would become ExploreKentuckyLake.com. The website had a soft launch on December 1, 2001 and launched officially on New Year’s Day 2002.
Since that time, Shawn and his team of staff have worked promoting the Kentucky Lake Area. Spanning three decades and receiving tens of millions of visits, ExploreKentuckyLake.com has become the internet’s top destination for all things Kentucky Lake.
We take pride in the Kentucky Lakes Area. We believe our platforms need to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information possible. ExploreKentuckyLake.com is updated around the clock, every day, providing timely information for tourists and locals.
Explorations Media Group, LLC, the parent company of this website, is based in Murray, Kentucky and is owned, operated, and designed by local folks who are originally from the Kentucky Lakes Area.
In 2018, our company expanded by acquiring LandBetweenTheLakes.com, a commercial website promoting LBL and the surrounding area. A little later, KentuckyLakeRentals.com was launched as a tool for users to find a specific type of rental. LakeBarkleyRentals.com took off next in 2021 providing the same rental booking service on Lake Barkley.
In October 2019, we acquired KentuckyLake.com, its digital assets and social channels from Lake Productions, LLC. KentuckyLake.com was relaunched and became an integral part of our company’s marketing efforts.
Why So Many Websites?
All five of our websites have a distinct purpose. KentuckyLake.com focuses on educating and marketing the Kentucky Lake Area to people who may not be familiar with the the lakes.
LandBetweenTheLakes.com is LBL-centric and ties in the two lakes along with all the lodging, attractions, restaurants, and other aspects of our region.
The purpose of this site – ExploreKentuckyLake.com – is for those who already know and love the Kentucky Lake region. That’s why our presentation and tone is just a bit different over here 😆
And that’s why you’ll find really deep information on lake conditions, fishing reports, events, what’s happening in the area, and more. This site could be overwhelming for those who don’t already know the lakes!
KentuckyLake.com = “hey, come check out the lakes!”
ExploreKentuckyLake.com = “welcome back, fellow lake-lover!”
