As I sit here at the house, waiting on trolling motor parts, I figured I might as well take the time to let everyone in on what’s been happening in my boat. The bluegill season had its ups and downs. I had several days where I caught good and several days that I didn’t catch much at all.

I am not sure the reasons for this, but multiple factors could be in play. Fish movements, boat traffic, and angling pressure, just to name a few. But for whatever reason, when you found them, you could get them to bite, and catch them. However, they were not spread out, and we’re only in small spaces. When I found these fish, I would catch several and move on.

You can never find too many places to fish. Having a conscience, and being good stewards of the resource, is a responsibility we should all take to heart when we are in the field or on the water.

I heard several people say that they found the bluegill, they whacked them, and then wondered why they couldn’t find them when they went back. I do believe that’s because those fish were literally caught out. These lakes are at a crucial period if they are gonna rebound. We all need to do our part to make sure it comes back better than ever.

I managed to blow up my motor since my last report. Let me tell you, it isn't very fun paying your mechanics bill when there is a powerhead installed. However, Brad Culp and Sportsman's Bait, Tackle, and Marine repair got me up and going in a week.

I can’t say enough good things about the folks and the service there. They went above and beyond to get me back on the water. This allowed me to take some catfish trips where the bite was pretty good.

Although some days are better than others, we manage to catch a good mess each time out. Hopefully, this bite will stay good for a while. Yellow bass and white bass fishing has been feast or famine. Days where current is generated, will generally find you being able to locate some fish to tug on your line. Days without current will make you think there isn't a yellow or white bass around.

We have had some small mayfly hatches and I found the whites gorging on them.

Not one fish I have cleaned this year has any type of shad bait in his belly. I have also found that the yellows are hard to find as well. This may be because of what they are feeding on or the fact that they’re just are not on my pattern yet. With just a little more time I am sure I can put the pieces of the puzzle together again! Regardless, after my trolling motor is fixed, I can’t wait to get back out on the water. Yes I need to find some fish for upcoming trips, but I have been at home waiting on the old pony express to deliver my parts so I can get this trolling motor going again for too long.

I am definitely feeling the effects of not being on the water first thing in the morning and staring down a honey-do list instead!

I should be back up and running by the weekend and will be on the water most days looking for something to tug on a line. I have several open dates if anyone is interested.
