Scattered Fish and Windy Weather

Written by Josh Lovett - Published on April 6, 2021

This week has been a great week on the big pond! Despite the high winds and debris filled muddy water, we have managed to catch fish all week! The fish continue to move shallow and I am seeing more groups of fish in 4-8'.

There are a lot of roaming open water fish in the 10-18' range with a few still relating to cover. I even had the opportunity to put a few clients in the front of the boat and show them how to chase these fish with the live scope. This resulted in several fish over 2lbs this week!

I expect in the coming two weeks as the weather gets better that we will see them in a full move towards the spawn. We have caught several males that are starting to color up already. However, with rising water and knowing what I know about how the water levels work, I would expect a sharp drop in the water level about the time the fish get to where they want to be.

Rarely do we get the stable water that we need for the fish to stay as consistent shallow as wed like. I still believe there will be plenty to catch in staging fish for a little while. As always I'd like to thank Jenko Fishing for making the great products that I use and Legacy Marine for keeping me on the water!
