Bass Fishing on Kentucky Lake Picks Up

Written by Scott McGlinchey - Published on March 10, 2021

Kentucky Lake Bass Fishing is on fire! There are numerous 15 up to 18 inch bass being caught right now and limits are coming easy for some anglers. No doubt the lake is cycling back and producing quality bass fishing.

In a recent Major League Fishing event held on Kentucky Lake more limits and heavier weights per fisherman came to the scales than during any comparable event the lake has seen in the last few years. All the 14 inch bass anglers were ranting about the last two years are now 15 up 18 inches. Some bass grow faster than others.

I fished about two hours last Thursday and Friday afternoon/evening and was happily surprised at how well the fish bit and the numbers of quality sized fish I caught. I ended up targeting shallow wood that was in the right depth for the water level (357-356) and used a spinnerbait to catch all of my fish. On Saturday I spent the day out fishing from about 10AM until dark.

Saturday had a large tournament in play and while the fishing was slower than Thursday and Friday we still managed to catch a lot of quality bass. All the bass we caught were in about 2 to 3 feet of water using a double bladed Terminator spinnerbait. There are other ways to catch bass on Kentucky Lake this time of year and I like them all.

Throwing a jerkbait/crankbait along the right banks, points or drop offs works well. Fishing offshore drop offs and ledges is really my favorite during the pre spawn. When fishing drop offs I like a jig, shallow and deep crankbaits, and even a heavy ledge spinnerbait.

The pre-spawn fishing will last for about another 3 to 4 weeks possibly longer and then the switch will flip and go right in to the spawn. This pre-spawn period is about the best time of year to catch a giant bass so it’s a great time to get out enjoy the nice weather and catch a monster.

As a guide I specialize in taking people fishing to make sure they get to catch as many fish as possible however one of the best values to fishing with me is what you can learn in a day I know for certain I am as good as anyone can be at teaching any aspect of bass fishing. If you want to gain an edge in your tournament game I am here to help you I have had several anglers win tournaments to include championship events. I can show how to use your electronics to catch more fish on any lake.

I use the same skills I honed as a baseball and wrestling coach to help anglers better their fishing game! I have traveled to clients home lakes where I have never fished to teach them how to catch more fish and win tournaments on their favorite lakes/bodies of water.
