Bass Fishing Is Good

Written by Scott McGlinchey - Published on May 30, 2020

Fishing on Kentucky and Barkley Lakes is good right now. I have continued to catch bass in both shallow and deep water. The last few days the shallow water fishing has been very good especially due to water levels being up a couple feet.

The high levels keeps bass that are done spawning hanging around the shallows. The offshore ledge bass have continued to move out to deeper water and I have been catching some heavy fish.

The expereienced bluegill and red ear fisherman have been catching loads of bluegills and big redears that these lakes are famous for. These fish moved up to spawn a couple weeks ago and the good fishing will remain for a few more weeks. I had to tweak my side imaging to work in real shallow water so I can find the beds and see the fish on those beds.

My favorite type of fishing in late May and early June is fishing the offshore ledges. I have already had some really good days. Basically, I am confident in catching a heavy limit of bass everyday this time of year. When bass first move out to ledges they stop on what I call "first arrival ledges" then move further out to the main river ledges.

Last year some of the main river ledges were not as good as previous years and some of the first arrival type ledges stayed good most of the summer. I have accumulated enough good offshore locations on Kentucky Lake that I couldn't fish them all in a week. Kentucky Lake is a phenomenal ledge fishing lake. The fishing pressure has been down on Kentucky Lake - especially during the summer - which makes the offshore fishing better.

My favorite baits for fishing the ledges are a 10-inch worm, Carolina rig, crankbait, and heavy spinnerbait. Many of these ledge locations have a best casting angle that seems to get fish to strike quicker. So if you fish the drop off the wrong way you may miss the fish. If you skip water and move to fast you can miss fish. There are many tricks of the trade you can employ to make the day more productive.

As a guide I specialize in taking people fishing to make sure they get to catch as many fish as possible. However, one of the best values to fishing with me is what you can learn in a day. I know for certain I am as good as anyone can be at teaching any aspect of bass fishing. If you're wanting to gain an edge in your tournament game I am here to help you.

I have had several anglers win tournaments to include championship events. I use the same skills I honed as a baseball and wrestling coach to help anglers better their fishing game! I have traveled to clients home lakes where I have never fished to teach them how to catch more fish and win tournaments on their favorite lakes/bodies of water.
