Fishing Report Archives

As I sit down to write this, the thoughts of the day running through my head, I think to myself what a crazy world we live in. With most people unemployed at the present time due to COVID-19, and the rest being deemed essential workers, it is easy to see the roller coaster of emotions different families face day to day.

Financial worries and virus concerns for loved ones, has stress at an all-time high. Life as we knew it is over for the time being, and has been replaced by social distancing and the wearing of masks. Please take a moment to say a prayer for all the families that have been affected by this terrible virus. Please remember to be kind to others, and hopefully this will all be over soon.

This spring has been typical for Western Kentucky. We have had torrential rainfall, followed by days of wind, with just a few decent days to fish scattered throughout. We still haven't really had many warm nights in a row. The generous rainfall has caused TVA to raise and lower the lakes  like a yo-yo. This has made for tough conditions.

Since I shut down the guide business because of COVID-19, it has allowed me to try some new things. For the first time in a long time, I had some time to dedicate to turkey hunting. Although most days were tough, I did manage to scratch a long beard out.

I also took advantage of the time to try long line trolling for crappie. I hope to be able to offer this to clients in the fall. I am still working some kinks out, but I see it as a step in the right direction.

Since the governor has allowed businesses to start opening back up, I want to let everyone know that I will begin booking trips on May 1. My first day to fish will be May 9th. I will keep everyone updated as to any new guidelines to be observed while we fish.

If you are sick, I would appreciate it if you would let me know before we fish. We can always reschedule when you are well. This also keeps me from bringing anything home to my family. No fishing trip is worth the life of a loved one.

As I said before, the up-and-down weather has made for tough fishing for me. I have managed to catch a few crappie as well as a few yellows, but in the upcoming weeks I will be looking for bluegills on beds as well as any white and yellow bass that I may stumble across.

May typically lends itself to good fishing on these lakes, and I hope it proves to be true again this year. I have plenty of openings for anyone who is ready to get out of the house and try their luck. I will do my best to show you a good time and send you home with a mess of fish.

I will also do my best to answer any questions that you might have about the area and what businesses may or may not be open as well as any rules and regulations. Whether you fish with me or not, I encourage you to come visit our lakes area.  It is truly an amazing resource!

I generally make my calls back in the evenings, but will do my best to be available as soon as possible for you. Let's hope things get better with this virus so life can go back to normal.
