Paris, Tennessee: 'Capital City of Kentucky Lake'

If you are looking for a true lake destination, look no further than Paris, Tennessee, the "Capital City of Kentucky Lake." Dubbed so because of its rich heritage, its tourist attractions and its vast selection of hotels and eateries, Paris fully lives up to its moniker. And if that's not enough, it even has a 1/16 replica of France's Eiffel Tower - small town charm simply doesn't get any bigger than that.

The 'Capital City of Kentucky Lake'

The county seat of Henry County, Paris is located within easy travel distance from nearby Tennessee cities such as Nashville, Jackson and Clarksville and borders the Kentucky state line, attracting travelers from each urban center, to the tune of approximately 1.25 million visitors a year.

Come to Stay

Paris and Henry County boast 20 lodging facilities that add up to more than 500 rooms. With that many options, there are sure to be some that fit your destination needs. From resorts to state parks and campgrounds scattered in between, there really is a bed for everyone.

Come to Eat

Every good vacation or getaway needs good cooking, and you'll find just that in the vast array of dining choices that Paris and Henry County have to offer. For lunch, check out Tom's Pizza and Steakhouse, the Oak Tree Grill or Perry's BBQ. Stay for dinner and you can enjoy live music at Blue's Landing or Meo Mio's Sportsman's Grill. If you're looking for something slightly upscale, you might give The Olive Pit a go. Or, if you like to imbibe, you're even covered with a trip to the Paris Winery or Perrylodgic Brewing Co. There are even coffee and tea or ice cream shops to ensure that your stomach stays full during your entire stay.

Come to Fish

They don't call it the "Capital City of Kentucky Lake" for nothing. In fact, in large part, that's due to the presence of Paris Landing State Park, which was established in 1945 on the western shore of Kentucky Lake. The Park encompasses three miles of water from shore to shore - waters that are chock full of more than 100 species of fish in both open water and in out-of-the-way coves. Each tournament fishing year, competitors flock to Paris Landing State Park for the marina's numerous professional bass and crappie outings.

If a state park isn't your style, you'll find several other marinas and fishing resorts, including the popular Cypress Bay Resort. At Cypress Bay, handy water's edge accommodations mean you waste no time getting yourself onto the resort's one-mile-long bay of deep-water fishing. Nine cabins at the resort ranging in size from one bedroom to three guarantee that whether you are a lone wolf or traveling with family or friends, there is a place that will suit you just fine - in fact, maybe even better since each has a full kitchen-living room combination, satellite equipped television and AC/H units. Drop anchor at the full-service marina and you'll find gas, ice, snacks and a bait shop for all your last-minute needs.

Believe it or not, there are nearly a dozen other options for fishing in Paris and Henry County, ranging from other full-service fishing resorts to a KOA Campground and RV park.

Come to Play

Are you not a fisherman or even a land lover? Never fear, there are plenty of other options for you. Paris Landing State Park is home to the area's finest 18-hole golf course, which has served as host to several high school and college championship tournaments. While there, you nature lovers will find options for hiking, wildlife viewing and picnicking or spending time with your family at one of two Olympic-sized swimming pools with diving boards and beach volleyball courts.

Leave the state park and there are more golf options at the Paris Country Club and at the Tennessee Golf Club. Or visit the famed Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area or Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge for hiking and taking in what Mother Nature has to offer.

Come to Sightsee

Never made it across the pond to see the real Eiffel Tower? Then it is definitely worth your drive to Paris, Tennessee, to see the city's not-so-pint-sized replica, located at Memorial Park. The Tower was the result of more than 10,000 man-hours donated by students, faculty, alumni and friends of Christian Brothers University to commemorate the 1990 Memphis in May festival.

Containing more than 500 pieces of Douglas fir and 6,000 steel rods, the monument was moved to Paris in 1993.

The Eiffel Tower is not the only thing that might draw the attention of tourists interested in quirky sightseeing opportunities - for that, a trip during the last full week of April is necessary. Then, you'll become party to the World's Biggest Fish Fry, which annual attracts tens of thousands of visitors to the county.

With so opportunities to explore, shop and dine in some of the region's most delightful establishments, Paris is definitely worth an overnight visit.
