Johnsonville State Historic Park
Johnsonville State historic Park is the site of a Civil War battle in which the confederate forces led by General Nathan Bedford Forrest defeated Union Forces stationed at Johnsonville. In the 1940's, the city was relocated and renamed because of the creation of Kentucky Lake.
Today visitors can also enjoy the 600-acre park with picnic shelters and tables as well as a couple of playgrounds. The new state of the art visitors center with Civil War exhibits is a must-see when you visit this historic park.
Loretta Lynn's Ranch
Located in nearby Hurricane Mills, Loretta Lynn's Ranch is an attraction located at the home of country music star Loretta Lynn. Within the park you can tour Loretta's Plantation Home, The Butcher Holler Home Place, a simulated coal mine and a variety of museums. For over 30 years the ranch has hosted Lynn's Amateur Motocross National Championship, the world's largest amateur motocross race. The park offers a full service RV Park, primitive camping, pool, canoeing, paddle boats, wrangler camp, fishing and special events throughout the season.
Fun For the Whole Family
Besides lake-related entertainment, New Johnsonville also has easy access to a couple of stables which provide horseback riding and related activities. If you're hoping to catch a movie, you can find both a theater and a drive-in movie theater in nearby Waverly. The city of McEwen in Humphreys County hosts an annual Irish festival that is attended by more than 20,000 people each year.
