Our McKinnon, Tenessee Area section of covers the community of McKinnon which is also known as Danville.  McKinnon is located about three miles from the eastern shore of Kentucky Lake in Houston County. 

The McKinnon area also includes Erin, the county seat of Houston County as well as the communities of Tennessee Ridge and Hurricane Creek.

A Closer Look at Houston County, Tennessee


Houston County, Tennessee does not have any interstates, US or four-lane highways.  The main roads are Tennessee Highway 13, Tennessee Highway 49 and Tennessee Highway 147.  The Houston County Airport (KM93) features a paved 3000' x 75' runway. Houston County is one of the more rural counties in the Kentucky Lake area with around 8,500 residents.  Erin is the county seat and has around 1,300 residents.  The twin city of Tennessee Ridge is also located in Houston County just west of Erin.  

Education & Healthcare

Over 1500 students attend Houston County Schools.  In the county there is one high school, one middle school, and two elementary schools, one each in Erin and Tennessee Ridge.

Houston County features a 25-bed community hospital and several other doctors' clinics and community health clinics.  The Houston County Community Hospital is located at 5001 East Main Street in Erin. 


Houston County is governed by a County Mayor and seven commissioners, which make up the Board of Commissioners.  They meet on the third Monday of odd Months (Jan., March, May, July, Sept. Nov.).

Erin, Tennessee is the county seat and one of two incorporated cities in Houston County.  The city is governed by a mayor and four alderman.  They meet on the first Tuesday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Erin City Hall.  Erin has its own police department and volunteer fire department.

Tennessee Ridge is Houston County's other incorporated city.  It is governed by a mayor and a Board of Commissioners.  There are three commissioners as well as a vice-mayor.  They meet on the first Monday of each month at 6:00 p.m. at Tennessee Ridge Elementary School.
