Outdoor Adventures Await Visitors to the Golden Pond Visitors’ Center

Golden Pond Visitors' CenterNo matter what the season, outdoor adventures await visitors to Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Western Kentucky and Tennessee.

What better place to begin your journey than at the Golden Pond Visitors’ Center. You’ll find helpful maps and brochures of everything there is to see and do within the 170,000 acres that make up the Land Between the Lakes. You’ll also find information about the history of the region and the many natural attractions that exist here.

Be sure to check out the center’s exhibition of historic photos while you’re here. These images showcase the rich heritage of the region and explain how the dams on the Tennessee and Cumberland Rivers were built and how the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area was came to be.

Visitor's Center In addition to all of these gems, the Golden Pond Visitors’ Center is a great place to find out more about hiking, biking, camping, swimming, fishing and horseback riding opportunities. In fact, there is a fishing pond located on the premises, and it makes a great spot to teach your kids the basics of hooking a worm and casting a line. If stargazing is more your style, then you’ll want to check out the Golden Pond Planetarium and Observatory located there on site at the visitors’ center.

Those seeking to find a few souvenirs to bring home to friends and family will enjoy the visitors’ center’s gift shop, which is stocked with fun, educational gifts for kids, nature guidebooks, postcards, and a variety of apparel for adults and children.

If you’ve been on the road for a while you’ll definitely appreciate the clean restrooms and vending machines located on the grounds.

The visitors’ center is open* and staffed daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It’s the perfect place for families and friends to kick back and get reacquainted with nature. So pack a picnic lunch, throw the fishing poles in the car and get ready for a few fun-filled days spent at Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area.

*Closed Thanksgiving, December 25-26, and New Year’s Day

There are only a few small herds of fallow deer in Land Between The Lakes, but occasionally a lucky explorer will catch a glimpse of one.
