Kentucky Lake: Water Level at Ky Dam - 362.14 Surface Temperature - 53

Lake Barkley: Water Level at Barkley Dam - 362.20 Surface Temperature - 53
Both lakes are 3 feet over summer pool and rising. The lakes are forecasted to be 4 ft over pool by Sunday, but I would advise monitoring the TVA website for forecast updates as the forecast has changed quite a few times in the past week. Heavy rains in the Ohio Valley and in the lakes area is the cause of the high water.

The Ohio River is having some major flooding so the lakes are being held up to avoid adding more flood waters to the Ohio River. Lake Barkley is muddy. Kentucky Lake is stained with some muddy water in the backs of some of the creeks and bays. Both lakes have scattered debris in the water so be careful when running.

The bass are still scattered with the rising waters. I have been getting reports of Largemouth being taken from the ledges on the main lake to the buck brush in the backs of the creeks and bays. As long as the water continues to rise with no severely cold weather I would expect more bass to be moving shallow. The quality of the bass bite depends right now on which day you are fishing...I am seeing days with very good bites and days with slow bites...it all depends on how fast the water levels are changing that day.
Largemouth Bass: Largemouth are being taken on scattered patterns this past week. Some are being taken on humps and ledges with deep diving crankbaits and jigs. Largemouth are also being taken in the creeks and bays on creek channel banks and secondary points. These fish are being taken on crankbaits, Carolina rigs, jigs and shaky heads. Largemouth are also being taken on the flats in the backs of the creeks and bays. These fish are being taken on lipless crankbaits fished on the flats near wood cover and also on spinnerbaits, jigs and Texas rigged creature baits flipped around the shallow buck brush.
Smallmouth Bass: Smallmouth are being taken on main lake points but the bite is scattered. These fish are taking crankbaits, jigs and grubs.
Here are some of the more productive lures this past week: Lucky Craft pointer in aurora black, Rapala shad rap in crawdad and hot steel, Lewis rattletraps in blue/chrome and black/red, Rapala red eye shad in sexy shad and black/red, Zoom brush hogs in green pumpkin, Zoom lizards in pumpkin/chartruese, Berkley shaky head worms in green pumpkin, River Bottom finesse worms in green pumpkin and Last Cast finesse jigs in black/brown and green pumpkin.
Crappie: The Crappie are being taken in 12- 20 ft of water along the creek channels vertically fishing with small jigs and minnows over deep brush piles. Some Crappie are being taken in shallow water, especially early and late in the day. These fish are primarily Black Crappie and are being taken with jigs and minnows fished under bobbers near brush piles and other wood cover in 4-6 ft of water.
