Sunset Canoe Trip

Join us for a relaxed paddle as we explore the nooks and crannies of one of Lake Barkley's scenic bays. We will search the waters and shorelines for wildlife such as osprey, eagles, beavers, egrets, frogs and songbirds.
Enjoy a feast for the eyes and ears as the sun dips below the trees and nature's evening chorus comes to life.

Day vs Night Animals

Storytelling Evening at the Homeplace

Life by the Sun, Moon and Stars

Guided by the sun, moon, and stars, farm families looked for signs from these celestial bodies as guides for everyday life on an 1850 farm. Have a seat in the cool breezeway and learn about the ancient folk beliefs that were used for everything from planting crops to getting a haircut. Every day a different fascinating topic. Are they true? Stop by and you decide.

Total Solar Eclipse Events

The first solar eclipse in decades will run through America's heartland, including the Kentucky Lake area, on Monday, August 21st. The total eclipse starts at various times, depending on your location, but generally around 1:25 to 1:27 p.m. and will last anywhere from one minute to two minutes, forty seconds.

Many events are scheduled to take place throughout the Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley area. We set up a special website for the solar eclipse event. You can access it at http://www.kysolareclipse.com

Tractors were not invented by 1850; instead a steady team of mules, horses or oxen were used to complete heavy duty jobs. Come watch as our farmers work the fields with these large draft animals every Wednesday through the summer. This program is soil and weather dependent. Every Wednesday through August 30th.

Only one kind of hummingbird breeds in the Eastern United States, the ruby-throated. However, it has lots of cousins-there are over 300 species of hummingbirds in the world! Join us for this presentation to discover some of the world's most interesting hummingbirds such as the Marvelous Spatuletail, Bee Hummingbird, Streamertail and Sword-billed Hummingbird. Then step out into our backyard gardens to watch our friendly neighborhood ruby-throats buzz around!
Program occurs every Wednesday in August.

Right now there is a new space race going on as teams of young scientists all around the globe compete for 30 million dollars in prize money offered by Google to see who will be the first private organization to land a rover on the moon in 2018. Feeding Time on the Farm

Golden Pond Planetarium Presents: Earth, Moon & Sun

This Bays Mountain production takes a look back at eclipses of the past and forward to eclipses of the future and where you can see them. With a variety of spectacular space environments you will see what happens when you get caught in the shadow of the Moon as the Sun plunges into a total Solar eclipse. Children love a good underdog story. This full-dome presentation is about the newest baby star in the sky - Little Star. He quickly discovers he is just an average star, but he yearns to become special and have planets of his own. Along the way in his quest, he meets other stars and learns what makes each star special. Morning with the Hummingbirds

Mornings are one of the best times to view Nature Station's hummingbirds as they feed at our freshly filled feeders. Let's step outside into the gardens and watch them in their morning feeding frenzy. We encourage photographers of all abilities and ages to participate. To be eligible, photos must be taken at Nature Station during August 2017.

Kids’ Photos (ages 15 and under)
The public will choose a “People's Choice” winner on Facebook
