An Aquatic Adventure for the Whole Family
Almost any visitor to Kentucky Lake has a natural love of the water. With its 160,000 acres of water and 2,300 miles of shoreline, it’s no wonder that Kentucky Lake has been called the South's Great Lake.
It’s filled with fun water attractions and has become the perfect place for adventurous families to explore the great outdoors while staying in a comfortable Kentucky Lake cabin.
This itinerary is perfect for those water lovers who want to blend some traditional water activities with a few unique water-filled attractions. The best place to begin this adventure is at Moors Resort and Marina, a resort known as a sanctuary for those who just can’t get enough of the fun available at Kentucky Lake.
Reserve a Kentucky Lakefront Cottage
Moors Resort and Marina is a beloved place where water lovers come to stay and play on Kentucky Lake. The resort’s 37 lakefront cottages make it a prime location for anyone who loves water sports, fishing tournaments and just getting out on the lake and playing around for a bit.
Accommodations are also available at the resort’s lodge, where guests can enjoy spectacular views from the lodge’s back deck, in addition to rooms loaded with several comforts of home. The cozy atmosphere makes everyone feel very welcome.
In addition to great accommodations, you’ll also find a variety of things to do around the resort. You’ll also be within an easy drive of several other water attractions that flood western Kentucky and Tennessee.
Moor Your Boat
Whether you’re looking to moor your boat or simply rent one, Moors’ Marina has lots of options. You’ll find covered and uncovered slips, as well as spaces for transient boaters and those seeking to store their boat at the marina year-round. If you decide to rent a boat, then the resort’s boat rentals include fishing pontoons, family pontoons, sport tritoons and fishing boats.
The marina store is also stocked with marine accessories and supplies such as spark plugs, fuses, bulbs, cleaning solutions and anything else you might need to get your vessel in tip-top shape for the duration of your Kentucky Lake vacation.
Play on the Water
If you’re not interested in doing any serious fishing and just want to tool around on the lake all day, then you’ll want to check out the water equipment rentals at Moors’ marina. The resort leases wave runners, jet skis and other water toys by the hour.
Moors is also located very near the Rock Quarry in Land Between the Lakes. It’s easy to get to the quarry by boat or those camping at Hillman Ferry can get there on foot. The quarry is a little over 100 feet deep, making it a very tempting spot to jump from the cliffs. Guests also love to swim here.
Enjoy Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner at Ralph’s
No matter where your water adventures may take you there is always time to find a good meal at Ralph’s Harborview Bar & Grill. Named for the resort’s founder, the restaurant serves a variety of burgers, sandwiches and desserts. If you’re looking for an adult beverage at the end of a busy day on the lake, then you’ll want to treat yourself to one of the many drinks served up at Ralph’s full-service bar. The restaurant also offers carry-out service to anyone who wants to grab a meal for the road.
Catch the Wave at Venture River Water Park
After you’ve had your fill of things to do on the lake, you’ll want to check out the attractions at Venture River Water Park in nearby Eddyville, Kentucky. The park added new features in 2017 that include Wipe Out, a supersized slide house, complete with five levels high, three tunnel body slides, a multilane slide, a crazy cruise slide and two flushing buckets. You’ll also want to try out the Waloopas, a continuous river inner tube slide where guests of all ages can ride through tunnels. There is also sand volleyball, a kiddie pool and a lot of other great water park rides and attractions.
For those in your party who might need a break from the heat, cabanas can be leased for the day to give guests a haven to rest and re-energize.
Participate in a Kentucky Lake Boat Races
Kentucky Lake is certainly the place for water sport lovers to take in a few boat races or to participate in one! It’s the site of a number of the Kentucky Drag Boat Association’s drag boat races and an occasional poker run.
Another notable event that draws a crowd is Kentucky Lake Race Week hosted by the Commonwealth Yacht Club. Race Week includes a series of sailing and sailboat racing events including the Watson Cup and the Commonwealth Cup.
The Watson Cup is a five race series that sails around the buoys on the first weekend of Race Week. The Commonwealth Cup is a medium distance race that sails the last weekend of the weeklong event schedule. While these are individual events, the tallies of both races will determine the KLRW Regatta Champion.
