A Kid-Friendly, Family-Approved Vacation
If you’re tired of the kids spending their summer afternoons absorbed in video games, then here is a Kentucky Lake vacation itinerary that will blow your kids away. (And the grown-ups will love it, too!)
Unique Family Accommodations
While there are a number of Kentucky Lake cabins available, there are also several to choose from along the shorelines of Lake Barkley. One such place is Prizer Point Marina and Resort in Cadiz, Kentucky. This family-friendly Lake Barkley resort is filled with some of the lake’s most intriguing accommodations, including tree houses, floating cabins, log cabins, and more traditional chalets and cottages.
In addition to great Lake Barkley vacation rentals, Prizer Point has a KOA campground for tent and RV camping. Some campsites are situated right on the waterfront, while others offer breathtaking views of the surrounding woodlands and Lake Barkley.
Enter the Family Fun Zone
Everything at Prizer Point is kid-friendly and family-approved. So start your visit to western Kentucky by exploring all that Prizer Point has to offer its guests. Throughout the resort, you and your family will find all sorts of things to do, from an indoor swimming pool to plenty of outdoor activities that will keep your children entertained and active for hours.
A few family favorite attractions include a jumping pillow, a giant chess set, miniature golf, ping-pong, a splash park, basketball and more. Children of all ages will have a blast as they engage in all of the exciting things there are to do at Prizer Point. You’ll have no trouble getting the kiddos to sleep at night after a full day spent exploring the attractions at Prizer Point.
Take in a Movie
You and your family will enjoy the starlit skies and the fresh night air that surrounds Prizer Point Resort and Marina. Something else you’ll like doing during the summer months is taking in a movie at the outdoor cinema, which plays family-friendly films after dusk. Check with the resort for show titles and times.
Ride the Trails
While you’ll find plenty to do on the grounds of the resort, you may also want to venture out and try a few other family-friendly recreations around Kentucky Lake.
For instance, you could devote a morning or afternoon to discovering the magnificence of a guided trail ride on horseback at the Lake Barkley State Park. Tours of this 1.5-mile trail are offered seven days a week in the summer, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Slip and Slide through the Water Park
Another must-see attraction for children and adults coming to Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley is the Venture River Water Park in nearby Eddyville, Kentucky. A five-story, super sized slide house, complete with three tunnel body slides, a multilane slide, two flushing buckets, a crazy cruise slide and a whole bunch of other cool water features are part of the park’s attractions. You’ll definitely want to dedicate a day to this water park adventure.
Education the Whole Family Can Enjoy
Whether your family loves hiking, biking or just learning more about nature and wildlife, you’ll certainly want to devote some time to exploring the natural habitats found at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area. A few attractions you’ll want to visit while you’re there include The Homeplace 1850s Working Farm, the Elk and Bison Prairie, the Golden Pond Planetarium and Observatory, and The Nature Station.
Hit the Mountain Bike Trails or Go for a Hike
There are also several outdoor attractions you might want to check out while you’re visiting LBL. Hiking and mountain bike trails wind through the 170,000 acres of scenic wetlands, forests, and open areas found along this peninsula that’s situated between Kentucky and Tennessee.
Share a Family Meal Together
No matter where the day takes you, you and your crew are sure to be famished by the end of the day. In addition to top-notch conservation education and outdoor activities, the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area is a fun place to stop for a picnic. Or if you’re looking for indoor dining options, there are loads of local restaurants in the Kentucky Lakes region.
Since you’ll be staying at Prizer Point, might we recommend grabbing a meal at The Pier Floating Restaurant? The Pier uses locally sourced meats and breads when it can, which means diners can enjoy truly localized Kentucky flavors and dishes.
A quick read through some of the restaurant’s online reviews reveals that customers love the generous portions of catfish, fried pickles and the delicious array of pizzas featured on the menu.
The restaurant is located at Prizer Point’s Marina, where you can dock your boat at the pier and enjoy family-friendly, casual dining on the water for breakfast, lunch or dinner. If you come for dinner, you’ll be able to take in some of the most breathtaking sunsets you’ve ever laid eyes on.
Kids Give This Vacation a Thumbs Up
Something you’ll hear over and over about the destinations featured on this itinerary is that kids never get bored. A few grandparents have even noted that when taking their grandchildren to Prizer Point the kids never asked to watch television. (Shocking, right?)
There is simply too much to do around these parts to find time to sit around twiddling your thumbs. So take our advice. Make your reservation and pack some comfortable shoes. You and your family are about to embark on an unforgettable Kentucky Lake family vacation!
