TVA Hosts Public Meeting

July 23, 2018 | Steve McCadams

Kentucky Lake area residents are reminded that Paris Landing State Park will be one of the locations for an upcoming series of public meetings hosted by the Tennessee Valley Authority to discuss the natural resource plan.

The plan guides how TVA manages public lands and waters in its seven-state service area. The TVA currently operates under a plan set in 2011, but now is working toward developing a plan to be implemented in 2020.

TVA is hosting four open house public meetings to obtain public input, answer questions and receive comments.

The meeting at PLSP will be from 5-7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 in Conference Room A at the inn.

Other meetings are scheduled for Knoxville, Chattanooga and Muscle Shoals, Ala.

In the new plan, TVA proposes 10 focus areas that encompass all the natural resource functions. These focus areas include: reservoir lands planning, Section 26a and land use agreements, public land protection, land and habitat stewardship, nuisance and invasive species management, cultural resource management, water resource stewardship, recreation, ecotourism and public outreach and information.

The proposed update features more clearly defined strategies, including objectives and programs for each focus area and a flexible approach for long-term planning, which will help TVA prioritize funding and support its mission of environmental stewardship. TVA will complete an environmental impact statement to analyze the potential effects of these changes.

For more information, visit www.tva.com/nrp for more information about the proposed update. Comments may be submitted at the public meetings, by mail or email. Any comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record, and will be available for public inspection. Comments should be submitted by Aug. 20.
