Final Bridge Design

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear announced on June 14, 2009 the design for the US 68/KY 80 bridges spanning Kentucky Lake & Lake Barkley.  The design is known as the "basket-handle" type and is unique to Kentucky.  With the main span at 550 feet, it will be one of the largest (if not the largest) basket-handle spans in the nation and the only one in Kentucky.

Design on the bridge is underway now with construction slated to begin sometime this year (2011).  Lake Barkley's bridge will begin first with Kentucky to follow a few months later.  Both bridges will take about two years to complete with construction costs at $350 million.  VIDEO:  High Res, Low Res
