Hummingbird Festival Returns to LBL's Woodlands Nature Station

GOLDEN POND, KYCome out to Land Between The Lakes (LBL) National Recreation Area and witness the migration of the Ruby-throated hummingbird during the annual Hummingbird Festival, Saturday & Sunday, August 3 & 4, from 10am-4pm at Woodlands Nature Station. Admission to this special event is $6 ages 13 and up, $4 ages 5-12, and free for children 4 and under. Highlights include hummingbird banding demonstrations, a nature photography program, a wildlife sketching workshop, a native plant sale, live animal encounters, local wildlife experts, and activities for kids. Enjoy dinner surrounded by hummingbirds on Friday, August 2, in the Woodlands Nature Station backyard. This event is $20 per person and requires reservations and full deposits due to limited space. For complete information or reservations, contact 270-924-2020. "Hummingbird migration in this area is at its peak in August, said Nature Station Interpreter Carrie Szwed. A large number of hummingbirds stop here on their journey south to Mexico and Central America. During this time, up to 200 hummingbirds visit our feeders in a single day. The festival is an opportunity to be a part of this awesome event.

Sunday, August 4

  • 10am-4pm   Hummingbird Banding Demonstrations
  • 11am, 1pm & 3pm   Hummingbirds 101
  • 12pm   Hummingbird Folklore
  • 2pm   Sketching Workshop: Find the Wildlife Artist in You,Presented by Lennie Fottrell
