LBL Scenic Drives There
are many places in LBL to take a nice, scenic cruise. Many people
everyday travel these routes for lake vistas, wildlife viewing, and quite
scenery. The best time to take a drive is in April/May, when
everything is blooming and greenery is everywhere; and also
October/November when the fall foliage is in full swing.
Kentucky Lake Drive
This is a short, three-mile drive located in the northern end of LBL near
the canal. Accessible via The Trace, Kentucky Lake Drive will take you to
several overlooks on Kentucky Lake. Picnic areas are also along this
route, as well as hiking & biking trails. This is a must-see for
anyone driving through the Kentucky Lakes Area!
The Trace
This 45-mile long paved highway begins at the north entrance of LBL
near Grand Rivers, KY, and ends
at Dover, TN. On some maps, it may be listed as Kentucky 453. On the
Trace, you can see all kinds of wildlife including deer, buffalo,
elk, and
more. Be sure to stop in at the Homeplace 1850s and the
Great Western Iron
Furnace, located along the highway.
There are many other routes in LBL that
are scenic, such as Silver Trail Road (to Hematite
Lake). The best thing to do is go by the
Visitor's Center, pick up the "Legal Road
& Hunting Map", and explore hundreds of miles of old roads, homesteads,
and abandoned communities. We do it all the time!
