Imagine
pitching your tent in the middle of nowhere, miles from civilization.
After some evening fishing, you decide to call it a night, sleeping under the
vast starry sky - stars you've never been able to see because of the city's
lights. As the lake's small waves lap against the shore, you drift off to
sleep in the gentle breeze. You awake to find a breathtaking sunrise over
some fog on the water, as you witness a heron grab a small fish for
breakfast. This is backcountry camping, and it awaits you at the
Land
Between The Lakes!
With over 170,000
acres of undeveloped land, and over 300 miles of shoreline, LBL is a camper's
dream. From civilized camping facilities complete with showers,
electricity, and RV hook-ups, to absolute seclusion along bays, in forests, or
on hiking trails, LBL is the place for campers.
Backcountry camping is permitted year-round anywhere in LBL except for cemeteries, picnic areas, fee campgrounds, the Environmental Education Area and within 200 yards
US 68. A Backcountry Camper Use Permit is required. The permit along
with rules and regulations can be purchased at the LBL Visitor's Center at
Golden Pond.
For more information on
"civilized" campgrounds, see
